Same meaning?

1. My father didn't earn much money, so life wasn't easy for us.

2. If my father had earned much money, life would have been easy for us.

Does the sentences have the same meaning?

Top answer

We don't often use "much" in the positive sense of (2). It would be more natural to say "a lot of money" (or "more money"). "much" is fine in (1).
