Hi, everyone.

Could someone tell me whether the following sentences are correct?

God imposes the same kind of leaders on people as they are.

God imposes the same kind of leaders on people as the kind they themselves are.

I wouldn't say those sentences are wrong, but they sound a bit awkward and long to me. I'd consider something more pithy, eg *** gives people the kind of leaders they deserve. Clive
