Salvage/save/rescue much of our furniture

After the fire at our house, we were not able to salvage much of our furniture.

Hi,

Is "salvage" in the above close to "save" or "rescue" in meaning to you? Thanks.

Hi Angliholic It's close, but to me it is more than just the idea of "save". The context suggests that there wasn't much furniture that was only lightly damaged, and thus most of the furniture was not worth saving/retrieving for further use.
