Salt was left behind

Can you please explain "left behind" in salt left behind?

When it reached about one third of its volume, the stirring was stopped and the salt was allowed to settle at the bottom. The crude glycerol was then transferred to another beaker and the salt was left behind. At this point, I was left with some still very crude glycerol.

Top answer

Beaker 1 has the crude glycol mixture. The salt sinks to the bottom. If you pour the very liquid carefully into another beaker, the salt will stay on the bottom of beaker #1.
