salt in scrambled eggs

I was teaching my six your old granddaughter to make scrambled eggs! She added a little salt and when I turned around she added more and then even more. The eggs were no longer yellow but brown and horrible looking. I obviously threw them in the garbage. What did the salt do to the eggs? I never saw this happen before!
