"Salivate" usage as a transitive verb

I recently worded a sentece as such:

"This new vintage is sure to salivate wine buffs everywhere."

Can someone please weigh in and tell me if this is technically correct usage?

Thanks very much-

  • It is not.
  • Dictionaries list no transitive usage of "salivate".
  • That is consistent with my observations.
  • I've never heard it used as a transitive verb and the example with "wine buffs" as an object sounds very strange indeed!
