Saline fragility curve

Hello,

can you please help me with the following:

What does the saline part refer to in the context of the fragility of red cells due to a burn injury. The curve from the diagram in question shows "the percentage of cells that are very fragile and will soon be removed from circulation."
One axis of the diagram shows the haemolysis percentage, and the other axis is "saline" percentage.

Thank you

Hi Clive,
Are you sure that any other meaning can be excluded here?

Hi,

Like what?

Some more technical thing, perhaps?

I don't know. I don't see what salt has to do with this fragility thing, when the reason why the red blood cells are fragile and will eventually be destroyed is the fact that due to the burn injury there is haemoglobin present in blood plasma (and it apparently shouldn't be there).

Hi,

Try a Google search. Here are a few hits out of many.

Sorry, let me ask you one more question concerning saline.
So, if it means the amount of salt is it a synonym for salinity?
In dictionaries they say that saline as adjective means salty, and as a noun a saline solution or NaCl.
In your opinion, is it a noun or an adjective here?
