Sail for/ sail to?

Hello:) What are the differences between "sail for" and "sail to"?
If my destination is Australia, should I say "My ship sails for Australia" or "My ship sails to Australia"? Thank you so much!

For seems more natural to me with a time reference included. We (set) sail for Australia tomorrow. (But them I don't do much sailing.
