I want to learn the difference between said & told.Please help.

Hi, A very basic explanation is that you tell information but you say words . eg Mary told Tom her name. Tom said, 'I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said.

I appreciated your feedback.My problem is when to use said and told. I don't know when to use said,said to, told,told to.

(e-g) I said.../I said to../I told.../I told ..to

Well, let's first concentrate on 'said' and 'told'. I tried to explain when you should use each of these. Why don't you write and post a few sentences using these. The we can go on to 'said to / told to' after that. OK?
