Vocabulary

Said, the said

Is it obligatory to write the definite article "the" before "said" and "mentioned":

E.g. Said company is obliged to...

The said company is obliged to...

------------------------------------------
Mentioned student...

The mentioned student...

I know that the article is used before "the above-mentioned", but I doubt it in the other cases.

Thank you in advance,

Roque.

I have an idea each is idiomatic. To me, both 'said' and 'the said' are acceptable, with 'said' sounding more legalistic. In the second case, only 'the mentioned' is possible; the article is mandatory, as with 'the above-mentioned' and ' the aforementioned'.
