Said / Say

When do I use #1 and #2?

1.Can you tell her that I said hi? (What does this one mean compared to #2?)

2.Can you tell her that I say hi? (What does this one mean compared to #1?)

Thanks.

Both are used for the same situation. If you want your greeting to sound more present, alive or fresh when it reaches the receiver, then you could use "say". But, why not use "Say "hi" to her from me"?
