"S" problem

Hi everyone, please help me with my problem with “S”. I dunno when I should add “s” to a word.

1. He plays football. He plays football as a hobby – Am I correct with the s

2. I review qualification(s) of applicant(s) and handle application(s)

Should I add “s” for qualification, I really have no idea about it obviously there is more than 1 single qualification for an applicant

Should I add “s” for applicant, there is more than 1 single applicant

Should I add “s” for applications, there are lots different type of applications and more than 1 single application.

3. Countable / uncountable

Water, coal… “s” will never be added with these kinds of word becoz they are uncountable (am I correct here with the s “these kinds of word”)

Application, applicant, qualification “s” may be added if

There is more than 1 application

Or there is more than a single kind of application e.g. application A, B, C, D for you to choose from.

Please help me with my “S” problem

Civil courts and Criminal courts.

Furthermore, when you hear "appeal" that means the case is being appealed to a "higher" court. (different names and systems for most countries)

For example: The US have state and federal systems. Level wise it has first circuit, second circuit... to Supreme court. So when
