Ryukyu's ocean

Please help me make the paragraphs below sound natural. Thanks a lot.

On May 23rd, 2015, a group of volunteers gathered to start a project to clean up the beach in the little Ryukyu Geban Bay, Okinawa. They used marine litter to make turtles, including drifting wood, cigarette butts, bottle caps and 300 pairs of slippers. Their slogan was “hand in hand to guard little Ryukyu’s ocean, to raise consciousness about turtle conservation and the world in general.” In an attempt to raise awareness on the conservation of tortoise and turtles, and draw attention to ocean issues and ocean habitats, they appealed to the world to transform their habits and customs to reduce negative impact on the oceans.

We must take a look at various threats faced by the marine litter in our oceans and take the initiative to save the animals and our oceans. Did you know the single greatest threat to most sea turtles is fishing gear? In honor of the day, please think about your use of plastic today. Especially plastic bags. Where does your plastic come from, and most importantly, where does it go?
