Russian crooks being your personal preserve.

"Personally to you. Russian crooks being your personal preserve. Lesser crooks—investment managers, insurance brokers, banking colleagues—may sit in the waiting room for half an hour and end up settling for the chief cashier, but Russian crooks, on your personal orders, go direct to EAB.

I try to understand this part of the novel. It is strange. Why isn't it "Russian crooks are in your personal preserve" instead of the original? Isn't it an exact sentence? What do you call such sentences grammatically?

hhtt Why isn't it "Russian crooks are in your personal preserve" instead of the original? The finite version of that non-finite clause would not contain 'in'. This finite form states a neutral fact.

  • The finite version of that non-finite clause would not contain 'in'.
  • This finite form states a neutral fact.
  • The non-finite form implies 'because', so you would add 'because' (or 'since' or 'given that') if you wanted to transform it from non-finite to finite: Personally to you.
  • Because Russian crooks are your personal preserve.
