Russia: friend or not?

Let's talk about Russia. I live here. This is my home.

Tell me - is it true, that Europe consider Russia not like a partner, but like the enimy?

I want to know not official, but your personal opinion.

Frankly, I don't think Russia is considered as an enemy.

Nowadays, I think Russia is more considered (sorry about that, but you asked my true opinion) as a decaying empire trying to get up from a long and painfull past.

The problem is that there is so few informations about your country, how do you live ? Is the mafia so powerfull as it is said ? What about the cultural life in Russia ? what do you think of the rest of the wold ?

Thinks are slowly getting better, this month in Brussels there is three exibitions about Russia (about the transyberian, the last Tsar and impressionist painters), but there's still so much things unknown about your country.

Well, mafia is as powerful in Russia as anywhere in the world. These are questions that need not a brief answer. But, talking about the attitude towards the rest of the world... I can say what people in my town usually do. If a man asks another man in the street how to get to a particular place and says he's a foreigner, you can easily mention that the Russian would be pleased to give an answer. Russian people travel often, but we rarely see foreign tourists with our own eyes. There were cases when Russian (!)  crooks spoke with French, or German, or Italian accent only to gain people's confidence.

I agree that the "hype" on Russia is deteriorating, simply because there is really nothing going on in Russia for other countries to talk about, or try to "help" with.  I haven't heard of any recent controversies.
