Vocabulary

rush sth / rush into sth

Two definitions for the word "rush" seem very much the same to me. So can I take them for the similar things that can usually interchangable in some contexts? (for example I was wondering if I can interchange "rush something" with "rush into something" in each of the examples under #1 and #2.

1. If you rush something, you do it in a hurry, often too quickly and without much care.

e.g, You can't rush a search

e.g, Instead of rushing at life, I wanted something more m

2. If you rush into something or are rushed into it, you do it without thinking about it for long enough.

e.g, He will not rush into any decisions

e.g, They had rushed in without adequate appreciation of the task

e.g, Ministers won't be rushed into a response

e.g, Don't rush him or he'll become confused

Hi That's a good question. I think it can depend on who has made you act ... - I rushed the library report because I wanted to get away early [= it was my decision to do the report quickly - I had my own reasons] - I was rushed into doing the library report because they didn't tell me until a day before [= I was forced to do it quickly - I was made to act by other people] Hope this may help Dave
