Running on a beach

Hi

An opening scene of him running [on/at] [a/the] beach in California.

I'm not sure about the preposition and the article. Could anybody help me out please?

Thanks!

"Running at" has several connotations, including time ("He was running at night") or confrontation ("He was running at his opponent, who held a stick."). If can also indicate location ("He was running at home on his treadmill," or "He was running at the 2012 Olympics."), but if you're identifying the place by where the runner puts his feet, use "on."

If the location is important, but you
