Run through

Hi teachers,

Why Obama's cool comes off as cold.

A sense of separateness from other people, organizations, and causes runs through Obama's biography. In Chicago, where I grew up, one learns to quickly place people in relation to the city's big political narrative.

1. Does "run through" mean "figuratively from page 1 to last page of his biography"?

2. What is "causes" here?

3. Could you tell me the meaning of the last part?

Thank you.
