I have trouble using the correct tense after a colon. I have made up the yhree similar examples below.
(1) Yesterday, I did three things I had never done before: run 5 km, eat four hot dogs and watch TV for eight hours.
(2) Yesterday, did three things I had never done before: ran 5 km, ate four hot dogs and watched TV for eight hours.
(3) Yesterday, I did three things I had never done before: running 5 km, eating four hot dogs and watching TV for eight hours.
My non-native English speaking friends cannot help me because they are not sure either. Please help me. Thank you very much for your time and help.
(1) and (2) are acceptable, but not (3). I think I would use (2) because it matches the tense of 'did'. In fact, you could just do it as two sentences by adding "I".
