Run into debts or run debts

Hello,

Is my sentence proper?
The man doesn't want to borrow a student loan because he will rack up/run up debts.

I also saw in the longman dictionary '' run/fall into debts''.

"run up debts" is more formal. "rack up debts" is closer to slang. Both are fine.

"fall into debt" (singular) is the expression I'm familiar with.

I don't believe we use "run into debts" where I live. It may be used in other places.
