Run colour

Let’s say that I’m reading a magazine or a newspaper and it rubs off on my hands. Would I then say that the magazine ‘runs colour’ or something like that? I know that I could also use the word ‘stain’. However, I’d like to know if ‘run colour’ (or something similar) would work as well.

Thank you.
