Run

Sir,


1.Somebody ran to her and gave her a big hug.

2.Somebody ran towards her and gave her a big hug.


Are "ran to" and "ran toward" interchangeable?

Are both the sentences correct?

If you 'run (up) to' something, you reach it.

If you 'run towards' something, you don't necessarily reach it.

1. I ran up to Lydia. She was still crying.
2. I ran towards Lydia. But it was too late. She drove off without looking at me.
