Rumpie !

Hello and Good Morning !

I am german, we are living in germany and we have a four year old boy. When he was one year old we decided to bring him up bilingual so I spoke only english to him. Everything works well, but today I have a question I cannot answer by looking it up or google it.

Some months ago I was a bit annoyed with him and told him - without thinking about it: "You are such a rumpie !".
I just made up the word because I did not want to teach him bad words. My boy of course asked me: "What is a rumpie ?". So I told him: "That's somebody who never tidies up !".

After that, over the last months the word "rumpie" became used very frequently between us in a lot of situations. If he sees a very dirty car, my boy tells me; "What a rumpie car !".
If somebody got a hole in his trousers: "What a rumpie!".

Unfortunately only yesterday I googled the word and was a bit shocked: I found out that the word did indeed exist and meant: "A guy with an attractive and notably hairless butt."

As english is not my mothertounge I have two questions:
- is the word "rumpie" really known to the average person ?
- how does a native english speaker feel, if he is addressed as a "rumpie" ?

Any answers and opinions appreciated !

Thanks,
Manfred

I have never heard the term. The definition you offer sounds a likely possibility, but it is no doubt (and probably regional) slang; it does not appear with that meaning in any on-line dictionary. There is only one entry for 'rumpy', with this definition: rumpy 1.

Thank you, Sir !

I really appreciate your information as a native speaker !

I feel better now using the word. I know it is not a recognized term but I quite like the idea to share a word with my son which is only known between us ...

But next time I check the internet first before I coin another word ...

I will have to share this story with my kids. When they were little, knowing that they were not allowed to use "bad words," one of them made up the word "konko" as in "You are such a konko head!" This has become a family joke, and we still use it from time to time, but I will tell them to Google it to make sure it doesn't mean something awful
