Rules when using a double consonant before ***

What are the rules for doubling up the last consonant of a word before adding ing at the end.

for example

get becomes getting
win becomes winning

however

cry becomes crying

so how can I explain to my kids what words get this doubling.

regards

TIA

When a monosyllabic words ends in a vowel followed by consonant, it dobles the consonant. I hope it helps.

However, you only need to pay attention to the last syllable when applying the rules. To summarize, you double the final consonant under the following conditions:02br
