Rule

Hi, I'm not familiar with some terms in the text from there comes my doubt... Does "Rule" in the rule of the market is law?

"THE RULE OF THE MARKET. Liberating "free" enterprise or private enterprise from any bonds imposed by the government (the state) no matter how much social damage this causes. "

This is not a sentence, so it's hard to tell whether or not legislation is involved. My assumption is that it's not. I take "the rule of the market" to be a general principle which may be applied in discussions about how economic forces work.

  • We could say, "Let the market rule," or "Let market forces rule," and we would be stating that we are opposed to legislation (laws) which took "social damage" into consideration.

I can see that my answer was confusing.

In your quote, "rule" does not mean "law."

There are various kinds of rules and various kinds of laws. Eg, "The second law of thermodynamics" was not passed by the legislature.

Generally speaking, "laws of nature" do not have exceptions, while "rules" often do. (rules of grammar??)

Laws created by governmen

In my opinion, the cricket example presents quite a different kind of rule than the market example.

The rules of a sporting event must be strictly followed.

If I understand the market example correctly, it describes a general principle of economics which someone believes to be true.
