Ruin image of

How would you phrase these 2 sentences? Would you phrase them differently?

Going back to a team that you led to 3 championship could potentially tarish/ruin your image if you were to not do as well as the first time around.


The police in the counrty do not portray a good image of themselves.

The first sentence is okay with either "tarnish" or "ruin."
