Rubbish

Rubbish is a major kind of environmental pollution. Each person produces about two kilograms of rubbish a day. We are making waste products faster than natture can break them down. And we are using up resources faster than they can be replaced.

This adds up to the trouble for the environment. Where does all the rubbish go? What can be done to help deal with rubbish? How can we make less rubbish?

Garbage isn’t just the smelly rotting fruits, vegetables or meat that we throw away in our homes. They’re only a small part of all the rubbish.

Have you ever wondered what happens to you rubbish? Most is burned or buried in landfills. Less than a quarter of our waste is recycled.

With a population of about 1.3 billion, rubbish is a big proglem for . The amount of rubbish Chinese cities create is growing by around 10 percent each year.

About 3 billion plastic shopping bags were used every day in before. The result was a great waste of resources and serious pollution. Luckily, something was done about that. Now more cloth bags and shopping baskets are used when people shop.

In the coming years, will take more measures to clean up the rubbish. But there’s a lot more than needs to be done. And you can play a part.
