"Rubbed and scrubbed to within an inch of my life..."

I was watching a movie and I saw the prhrase: " Saw the state of that floor - Scrubbed with an inch of it's life"

I did not understand meaning of this part of sentence: "Scrubbed with an inch of it's life"
Can someone help me?
