It's almost too strange a sentence to make any judgment on. I suppose it could be correct in the right context, but it seems to me it should be That was a day-by-day routine of sorts.

Or That was a daily routine of sorts.

I wanted to mean : Each and every day I had to go to the market thus it became a day by day routine of sorts.
