I don't understand this. You say that there is no context, and then speak of the idea of the whole text.

'Rout the rut', on its own, is meaningless.

People often get "stuck in a rut" of inactivity, and the piece is intended to show you how to change your pattern of behavior and "rout" (defeat) it. It's a mixed metaphor, which is sloppy.
