Hi

I caught a glimpse of a woman rounding the top of the stairs.

---- I'm not sure what "rounding the top of the stairs" mean here? Does it mean she was walking around, or up and down the stairs?

It means that she was climbing the stairs in the normal way, and had reached the top of the stairs, and at that stage her course is seen as taking her around something (such as a corner), possibly thereby bringing her into view.
