rounded the drain

Hello ... I don´t understand the meaning of .. I rounded the drain ....

Backround ... someone is talking about an accident, and that he was dead for some secondes .. and says, that the doctor saif, he had also "rounded the drain" ..

what does that mean ... he´s been near the edge?
