Sometimes there are no answers for why we do things in English. We say it that way becuase we say it that way. I doubt there is a reason, maybe it's just to confuse students of English.

"fish" is used the same for singular and plural because it is a rule of English grammar.

Cool BreezeHi CB. I thought it was McDonalds but I wouldn't really know, I only enter the premises to use the toilets.
After all, I recently posted an extract from an American newspaper in which McDonald's is used as a plural. It sounds perfectly natural (and terribly incorrect) to my ear, so I suppose it sounds equally good to native ears.
