roots hair

How would you write the following sentences please?
Has she purposely grown out her roots color or has she not had the time to do root touch up?

Dark roots in/with blonde hair are just a style.

Not long ago, it was taboo to show hair near the roots, which had grown out in a different colour. At that time these ‘roots’ had to be touched up.

Thanks
