roller coaster and patching lanes

Is it my imagination or is the "new" High way 87 starting to drive like a roller coaster? they are now patching lanes before Tyalor Street and there is at least one sunken area marked with paint. ( i got this from news paper)

what does mean roller coaster? and patching lanes? i don't understand? help me thanks

'Patching lanes' means that instead of resurfacing the road, they are only repairing particular bad spots. I'm sure that adds to the 'roller coaster' effect.
