rob a bank of?

Hi

Is it unnatural to say "rob a bank of $10 000"? To me "for" would probably be better.

Thanks!

I think it depends, but as stated "of" is the best answer.

He robbed a bank of $10,000. -- He stole $10,000 from the bank.
He robbed a bank for $100! -- To obtain $100 he robbed a bank. The emphasis here being why would he go through that trouble and risk for a small amount.

No. That's saying that someone paid you $10,000 to rob the bank. It doesn't say now much you robbed from the bank.

More idiomatically in my opinion, you rob $10,000 from the bank.

I am willing to rob $5,000 from the bank for $25,000.
~ If someone pays me $25,000, I will rob the ban
