"roast" and "toast"

Hello, what's the difference between "toast" and "roast"? does "roast" only refer to meat and "toast" only refer to bread?

ESLBeginner, You are quite right in your supposition. According to a general definition, 'roast' is defined as 'a large piece of meat that has been cooked in an oven or over a fire', while 'toast' stands for 'bread that has been heated until its outside is brown and hard'. Both words can also be used as verbs.
