Would the following sentences be correct?

1. The waves roared, and the sound was almost melodious to her.
2. The ocean roared and the sound was almost melodious to her.

Can the ocean's/waves' sound be described as roaring?

I'll respectfully disagree with GPY and say that an ocean roar is ok with me. A quick google tells me that there's a music album called Ocean Roar, also a gaming scenario; also a race horse; and a place just southwest of Santa Rosa
