rise = intransitive verb (no object) to get higher [The river is rising.]

arise = stand up - somewhat archaic

rouse = to stir up, agitate [The officer roused the cadets at 4:00 in the moring.]

arouse = to cause excitement among (sometimes with a sexual meaning)

Raise is the transitive version of "rise" - it takes an object. We raise the flag, we raise an alarm, etc.

Just to complete the set.
