Rip the top of the bottle off

It doesn't end there, though. Motts Apple Juice has also required the use of pliers to open lately. No amount of effort with my hands would even begin to loosen those lids. I use the pliers for Pepsi because I don't like the pain of opening them by hand, but with the Mott's juice it is mandatory. I'm not a weakling either. I have an above average level of strength in my right hand due to physical therapy requirements after a surgery in my teens. I could probably loosen lug nuts with my fingers, but not that stupid Mott's bottle. Even with pliers it feels like I'll rip the top of the bottle off before it comes loose. Why would they put the caps on that tight? Should it really be necessary to use 200 lbs of torque to get these things off?

I guess here "rip off" means "With pliers he afraid the bottle will break up"?

Is it correct?

Rip off = violently remove. The cap is so tightly affixed that the neck of the bottle will break before the cap is loosened.
