Rim of the pot

Out here, far beyond the rim of the urban melting pot, I had expected to find a traditional, native village.

With what else can I replace "rim"?

Thanks,

You would need to replace the whole metaphor really; pots have rims. Or possibly lips, but that doesn't really work in your sentence. I suppose you could use edge but the metaphor is weakened.

Hello,

Does the original sentence sound really odd? I think it's a good matephor!

The original sentence is fine. It is a good metaphor.
