What does 'rigour' mean in:
Some players excel in a purely logical approach to chess, breaking each game down and analyzing it with the rigor of scientists.

You may as well get used to it, because that's what it means.

It doesn't. I don't understand why you are being so persistent about this. What seems so wrong about the idea of analyzing a game of chess with the precision of a scientist? Have you looked up "precision" in the dictionary?
