Right verb for this Subject/Object?

These sentences were made to show the usage of questions tags, but I have a problem finding the right verb and figure out the right subject/object. Which sentence is right/wrong, and why is that?
a) The most expensive hobby are horses.
b) The most expensive hobby is horses.
c) Horses are the most expensive hobby.
d) Horses is the most expensive hobby.
Thank you very much!

The verb should agree with the object, but conflicting number can make any such sentence sound awkward. Do not use such, but recast: a) The most expensive hobby is raising horses. b) The most expensive hobby is horseback riding.
