Although grammatically correct, this sentence sounds somewhat unnatural. I think is far more common to say "The Lin family were (or was) travelling around Taiwan by bike for three weeks" or "The Lin family spent three weeks in Taiwan, travelling around by bike". Besides, you can spell both "traveled" or "travelled", but it depends on what English dialect you want to write in: the double L (LL) version is the British spelling, whereas the single L is the American one.

(2) The Lin family spent three weeks riding bikes to travel around Taiwan.

I think " It took the Lin family three weeks to travel around Taiwan by bike" is more correct, since this sentence appears to emphasize the time it took the family to travel the country by bicycle.
