Rich or poor?

What's the meaning of rich or poor?

Rich or poor depends on your view.

We have passed six years together…

Yen said: they are so snobbish, the rich. Look at them! (They spoke foreign language sibili, shibila, chibilum…).

We broke in laugh and imitated her…

Couvent’s Sylvies asked our brother to punish us because we dared to imitate them with irony. Our little lawyer defended us (though he was also an Adran’s Alain Delon). They were so impolite. They spoke foreign language among people who couldn’t understand them. May be they abused to us…

One day, Lan asked me:

Let’s go to see the rich, they have a lot of Velvet Jackets. Oh ! I love her red velvet jacket!

At Lan house, she said: wait for a moment. It seemed an hour to want. The girl opened her suitcase. There weren’t any jackets: there were only two nigh dresses, one’s yellow, the other’s white. I told Lan with disappointment: “ night dresses are nothing we can make a lot to pile in wardrobe. We like velvet jacket. They should be made by famous tailor”.

After that Lan invited me and our dozen friends go to the pub to listen to: bang bang, love story, oh my lover, hand in hand… oh! She was very rich; she took us to go to the pub all weekdays long.

Lan lived in Toronto. She told us that she had forgotten her visa but she could come across the Frontier with a smile. European men are very gallant. We asked her:

-Are you rich now?

-No, I’m not. We have model cars; tale buildings but we have no money in our account.

That reminds me of a translation of a woman’s question to a Belgian doctor who did research about environment in our district:

You take elevators to your room, you live in a fifteen-floor building and you drive to work. Why do you tell me you are poor?

The Belgian looked at me and smile tactfully.

I remember to my case, people always criticize me” you wear a lot of diamond but you are so stingy”.

No one can sympathize with me. I was a granddaughter – in- law of a bankrupt jeweler. Our heirlooms are some sets of Antique jewelry. They could excite some people’s envy. Sometimes, I wonder if I were rich or poor?
