Grammar

rich enough to vs so rich as to

He is ....... rich ...... to buy that car easily.

A) as / as
B) so / that
C) more / than
D) too / in order
E) so / as

For me the only correct version is "F" which is "He is rich enough to buy that car easily". But I need your confirmation as to the validity of my opinion. What do you think about options "A" and "E" in particular? Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,
I think it's E. So... as to do something. Don't your dictionaries list that structure? I have to say Longman doesn't... It just say "so... as to be", showing it's only used with the verb "to be". How strange...

E is correct, but I can't say it's commonly heard, at least in AE. We would all say, "He's smart enough to know he can't afford that car," or "He's just drunk enough to do it."

Hi,

I know "so ...as to be" and the structure as in "would you be so kind as to dance with me".
