Rewrite the sentence

They got success since they took my advice .
A. If they did not take my advice, they would not get success
B. But for taking my advice, they would not have got success

The answer shows A is true, however, as far as i know "conditional sentences type 2" isn't used in past tense.
Correct me if i am wrong.
