Rewrite sentence so that it has the same meaning as the original one

1. He will retire next month after teaching chemistry for years
>> After he..............................
The answer: After he has finished teaching chemistry for years, he will retire next month.
Can I rewrite like this: " After he has taught chemistry for years, he will retire next month" ?

2/ Having done the test well, Tom hoped to be given a good mark.
>> Tom hoped.....................
The answer: Tom hoped to be given a good mark as he had done the test well.
Can I rewrite like this: "Tom hoped to be given a good mark after he had done the test well". ?
