Mister Micawber I think it's just Pieanne's definition used ironically. You almost killed yourself means you tried very hard-- and used sarcastically, it would mean that you did not try very hard at all!
KhoffWe might say "Don't strain yourself," ironically, to indicate that someone is not really trying very hard.
