Hi, I have revised my earlier posted motivation letter and shortened it by half of original letter. I request you all to kindly proof read it and give your valuable suggestion for improving it esp if you find something redundant or grammatical mistakes and punctuation. I am anxiously waiting for your comments. ThanksAdmission & Selection Committee I am applying for ----- starting from September 2013 at -----. I aspire to do extensive research in technical textile development and textile machines modifications and capitalize on this research to help Pakistan shift from conventional to knowledge based textiles, making a substantial contribution to its economy and infrastructure.Specialized knowledge and expertise in Technical textiles and textile machinery development will enable me to work on multiple fronts to promote indigenous development of technical textiles and revive the major revenue earner in Pakistan’s economy, the textile industry that faces massive survival challenges and declining exports (about 10.38% in last 11 months). Initially, I will work for developing such technical textiles that require no or little modification in the existing machinery & setups. These products may be on the lower end of technology but the psychological effect will be persuasive enough for the industry that is hesitant of experimentation to assimilate Technical textiles. Subsequently, I will work for the incremental capacity building of industry for technically more demanding products and gaining self-sufficiency in Medical textiles, Geo textiles and Agricultural textiles that constitute major import bill. Besides, I will collaborate with government to boost technical textiles development through SMEs that have ability to respond quick technological changes and establish research centers providing an innovative platform to the young engineers and new product options for industry & SMEs. I believe my efforts for promoting technical textiles development in Pakistan will confer multitude of benefits. From creating employment opportunities, to diversified product mix with innovative and high value added products implying hundred to thousand times higher return on investment, containing expensive imports of technical textiles which in case of medical textiles only amount to $70M p.a. Also it will prepare the industry to capitalize on the Asian technical textiles market that is also the largest consumer and offers highest growth potential of 6.5% p.a. All these positive developments stimulate me to take this challenging path.I have chosen this course as it provides optimum knowledge in subjects befitting my career goals. The curriculum is based on the latest research and offers interdisciplinary knowledge of Textiles, Mechanical engineering, and Machine design with comprehensive training in Technical textiles. Modules of Textile materials, Processes & machines of textiles and knowledge of scientific methodic approach will be invaluable for my research especially on development of Medical Textiles, Geo-textiles and Mobil Textiles. Through modules of Technical Mechanics, Machine Design & Mechanisms, Processes & Machines of Textiles and Clothing technology I will acquire detailed knowledge in design, elements, mechanisms, functioning of gamut of Textile machinery & processes that will hone me to work for process optimization and modifying existing setups and machinery for Technical textiles. Another cogent reason is the exposure to “Institute of Textile Machinery & High Performance Textiles” that has been the fount of research and engineered innovations in machine construction and technical textile development. It offers cutting edge facilities for manufacturing, testing, CAD & CAE and it will allow me to muster invaluable experience and skills to actualize my goals. Also the interdisciplinary research atmosphere at ------- and opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds will be highly conducive for my studies. After acing academics with a University medal of honor from the country’s premier textile institute, National Textile University, augmenting that knowledge with practical experience in an integrated textile unit, and carrying out research in technical textiles, I believe M.Sc. in Textiles & Clothing technology is the next step forward in pursuit of my goals. With consistent performance & keen interest in textiles, I topped my class and was able to comprehend the rigorous courses in textile materials, spinning, weaving and clothing technology, Textile chemistry, testing and quality control, Textile machinery and processes. My active participation in the technical workshops and seminars sparked the lifelong interest in technical textiles. To satiate my growing inquisitiveness I conducted research to analyze the “Effect of Interlacement pattern in woven reinforcements for technical textiles” as engineering dissertation. This was the formative phase of my career goals and a highly rewarding experience as I acquired hands on knowledge and research experience of technical textiles, their potential applications and factors limiting their development in Pakistan. The dearth of technical resources, I faced during research energized me to work for development of technical textiles in Pakistan. A major hurdle that turned into a stimulant was scarce weaving facilities for technical fibers and in absence of other alternative; I contrived a basic weaving machine to prepare reinforcement structures for my research. This experience instilled an avid interest in machine construction that later transformed into my career goal. Emboldened by this exhilarating episode I decided to expand my skills in Technical textile development with training in “Design & Analysis of textile composites” at National Institute of Design & Analysis (NIDA), Pakistan and gained invaluable skills in design and development of textiles composites that I utilized in developing GFRP laminates for corrosion resistant applications. Realizing the importance of CAE in technical textiles development, I also underwent training in “Applications of Finite element analysis (FEA)” at NIDA and learnt to competently perform FEA analysis and modeling of textile reinforcements and composite materials. My professional career with ABC has provided me with praxis of integrated manufacturing in a textile product chain. Through the inter-departmental cross trainings I developed a broad understanding of operations, processes & specialized machinery at various stages of product development. While working as an Assistant weaving manager I have greatly improved my team management skills by leading a team of 30 people to manage weaving production & maintenance operations. Overseeing maintenance operations has also expanded my knowledge of projectile weaving machines. Another aspect of my job and a great learning opportunity that I really enjoy participating is coordinating with other departments on technical issues and process optimization in our product chain.Besides acquiring technical knowledge and skills, I have discovered myself through the challenges I met during my education and career. My ingenuity gave me the impetus for carrying out interdisciplinary research, while my resourcefulness allowed me to take initiative and improvise a basic weaving machine to complete my project. With my commitment and hard work I got promoted as Assistant manager in just 6 months. My self-starter nature has helped me to put extra effort as a role model for my team to improve our department’s performance. In personal life my indomitable strengths of conscience, humility and compassion have allowed me to build effective relationships with people around me and brought satisfaction in my life. I never think of myself as the best, what I strive for is to be best of myself.I decided to pursue higher studies in the “land of Ideas” after learning myriad of competitive advantages through discussions with some German Alumni and research. The most appealing aspect for me is the culture of critical thinking and the traditional unity of teaching and research that forms the basic principle of German university system. Moreover the interdisciplinary research atmosphere, integration of latest research in curriculum, strong industry-academia linkage, state of the art technical facilities and intellectual freedom make it first choice for my research based studies. Besides lacking in most of these features, the major limitations of higher education in Pakistan that I also faced are the unwelcoming attitude towards the interdisciplinary research & near zero tolerant attitude of seniors for dissent which is tantamount to discouraging research efforts.Another decisive factor in selecting Germany for advance studies in Technical textiles is its leading position in world technical textiles (45% share) and its thriving Technical textiles industry that has grown by 40% since 1990. Studying this success story and exposure to the German industry that has shifted from conventional to knowledge based products will be a highly relevant model for Pakistan and my aspirations to bring the same shift in the textile industry.Given my record of commitment to excellence, I feel confident to bring a high level of energy & enthusiasm to your program.
